"Daniel Gontz’s project engages the meanings of and contradictions inherent in the phrase ‘contemporary art’, taking its cue from the permanent neon installation at Casino Luxembourg by Maurizio Nannucci. The apodictic but rahter unproblematic formula gleaming at night through the glass wall of the museum is contested or challenged in Gontz’s three reactions, be they that of the statistical tourist, distrustful critic or graffiti artist. With the minimal means of this virtual intervention, the project breaches a discussion of the contemporaneous vs. the contemporary ore the post-Duchampian, proposing to reflect on new ways of communicating the contemporary relevance of art."
